The Urbana High School Newspaper, The Echo, has informed, entertained, and provided an open forum for Urbana High School students, parents and faculty since 1924. It maintains these goals today through biannual print publications and weekly stories uploaded to the UHS Echo webpage.
The Echo is student-led by a group of roughly twenty Urbana High School journalism students who are learning and practicing methods of journalistic excellence. Any student interested in joining the Echo staff can sign up for the Journalism course for their Fall or Spring semester.
Pick up a copy of the Echo when magazine publications are made available at school or visit uhsecho.com frequently to stay up to date with information and conversations surrounding Urbana High School, the community and the world.

Does UHS maintain copies of all the Echo publications they have put out throughout the years? My mom attended there from 1936-1940 and worked on the Echo. She kept copies of them until she passed in 2005.

Thank you for reaching out to us—it’s great to hear from former staff members and their families! We recently found filing cabinets of past papers in an unused book room and are in the process of reorganizing them to make sure we have accurate records!
how can i join??
I was editor of The Echo for the year 1959 to 1960. Roger Ebert was co-editor. Since he was also president of the senior class that year he couldn’t head two organizations. At any rate I have probably a complete collection of hard-copy editions of The Echo that year. Let me know if you want them for your files. —Nancy Smith Scheeler, Brunswick, Maine.
Great job, guys! I was editor of The Echo from 1959-1960. (Roger Ebert was co-editor because he was also president of our senior class that year. The administration said he could be head of only one organization.) I have hard-copies of most, if not all, of the editions of The Echo from fall 1059 to graduation 1960. If you need these for your collection , I will be happy to send them to you.
