Keeping it Cool in the Pool
On Tuesday, September 9th, the Urbana High School Girl’s Swimming and Diving Team had their second home meet of the season. The meet was held at the Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center. The girls faced the Normal West Community High Wildcats in 12 events. The final score was Tigers-68.5 Wildcats-116.5. Highlights of the meet included Carolina Jimenez, junior, taking first in the 110 yard butterfly. Anna Freyfogle, junior, took second in the diving competition and Dana Williams, junior, took first in the 100 yard breaststroke. Juniors Korrine Spears and Morgan Cooper both dropped time on their events. Cooper dropped three seconds on her 100 yard freestyle and Spears dropped ten seconds on her 110 yard breaststroke. The team started their season with various injuries, illness in the past week, and currently there is no diving coach. “We’re trying to keep everyone healthy, and we’re working on creating a positive attitude,” says Coach Stephanie Sherman, “We’d love to get a relay to state this year.” Next up for the girls is an Away meet at Niles West on Saturday, September 12th.
