Seniors gather to watch sunrise

This morning, the Civic Engagement Club hosted Senior Sunrise for the second time ever. Senior Sunrise is a tradition held at many high schools across the country where seniors gather with their pillows and blankets to watch the sunrise to celebrate their final year of high school.

This activity is very common for high schools to participate in, but UHS has only held it once before. It’s significant this year because UHS seems to be leaning more towards tradition.

“We were looking for an event that could bring the school more together because UHS seems to be lacking some unity,” said senior and Civic Engagement Club President Noam Kramer.

This is the reason senior Ameriah Lockett went: “I wanted to catch up with people I haven’t seen in a while.”

For senior Jennifer Arriaga-Lopez, waking up early was worth it. “I was freezing, but I had a nice time with my friends and I liked seeing other students have fun and look at the sunrise.”

They also brought this tradition back to raise money for hurricane relief for the recent Hurricane Ian.

“We had to get a group of people from Civic Engagement Club who were willing to help,” said Kramer. “Just getting the school’s approval was the biggest thing, other than that it was a pretty easy event to set up.”

With such positive reviews, perhaps UHS will continue this tradition. What do you think?
