Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Impresses
On September 21st, 2014, tragedy struck the Minnesota Vikings National Football League (NFL) team. Their starting quarterback, Matt Cassel, went down with an injury in the latter half of the game.
Usually this is the worst thing that can happen to a NFL Franchise, but the Vikings were prepared.
In this year’s NFL Draft, the Vikings took former Louisville quarterback Theodore “Teddy” Bridgewater with the 32nd, last, pick in the First Round of the Draft.
So in this game, against the New Orleans Saints, on the 21st of September, Bridgewater stepped in and played with incredible poise considering it was his first time ever playing in a Regular Season game.
While the Vikings still ended up losing, fans and coaches of the Vikings are both very happy with the way Bridgewater played. He went 12-20 (passes completed-pass attempts) with 150 passing yards.
Recently, it was released that Cassel the original quarterback, broke several bones in his left foot. He was placed on the injured reserve and is considered out for the remainder of the 2014-15 NFL Season.
Bridgewater, the very next week, had an amazing game. He threw for over 300 yards and had 0 interceptions. Only 3 other Quarterbacks that have played for the Vikings have had games on par with Bridgewater’s performance. Among those is Brett Favre, an arguable candidate for the greatest Quarterback ever, and Daunte Culpepper, who is arguably the greatest Viking Quarterback.
Senior Jeff Trask said, “Bridgewater played a very good game against the Falcons. He was very consistent.”
Trask later went on to talk about how tough it is to be a Quarterback for a team that doesn’t score a single passing touchdown. He claimed that it is very unnerving, but it is worth it for the “W”, or the win.
However, in the Fourth Quarter against the Falcons, Bridgewater suffered a high ankle sprain and was forced to leave the game in the Fourth Quarter. The Vikings still ended up winning 41-28.
This high ankle sprain forced Bridgewater to also miss the very next game against the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 2nd. The Vikings started quarterback Christian Ponder, who has a lot of experience for the Vikings, but the Vikings lost by a huge margin, the final score was 42-10.
The Echo, and myself, wish Bridgewater all of the luck in this remainder season and his career and we wish Cassel a very speedy and full recovery.
