Varsity Girl’s Tennis vs. Rantoul

The Varity Girls Tennis Team had their first home game in Blair Park tennis courts against Rantoul High School last Tuesday, September 1.  This is the girls’ third match against other schools. The other teams they have faced are Paris High School, Downers Grove South and Rantoul High School.  The girls won all their games during their match with Rantoul.
“I think the girls did really well,” says head coach, Melissa Welch.  “This match helped us gain confidence because we had some really tough matches last weekend.”
If there were things they had to prove on a team, Welch says that it would be better if they have less and force errors.  Junior Elise Elinger, varsity tennis player, says that she doesn’t feel like she was playing very well during their match with Rantoul.
“I want to win more tiebreakers and I want to make good comebacks,” says Elinger.  But Elinger says that as a team, their goal would be to have a team unity and to get to know new people in the team better.
“We have a lot more girls this year, so this means a lot more different levels and different dynamics,” says Welch.
One thing that Elinger likes about the team this year is that the girls are very friendly and there aren’t any dramas.
“A lot of people don’t think tennis is a team sport, but it actually is because we encourage each other in the team a lot.”
