UHS Track Preview
It’s about that time again, and both the girls and boys are ready to get the 2011 track season started. Many of the athletes have been hard at work improving and toning their skills to prepare for the upcoming competitive year. As each day passes and the snow slowly start to melt away, the teams are getting closer to have the opportunity to showcase their talent. As well as letting their competitors know the Tigers are a force to be reckoned with.
The Girls Head Track and Field Coach Amy Boscolo feels good about this year. “We haven’t competed yet, but we have a bit more depth this year and that’s always a good thing to have,” said Boscolo.
They are looking to have an even brighter season than last year losing only one senior. “For us to have a successful year, I think that everyone would have to give it their all in every event, track as well as field, also to work together, and have positive attitudes,” said Junior Lateshia Dove.
“We have grown more as a team, because we are together more and we have the opportunity to push each other, whereas last year we were separated more in practice,” said Senior Shelby Stevenson.
The boys are also anxious to see if their talents and hard work will get them far this year. They have runners as well as throwers eager to give other teams a run for their money. “This year we have faster runners who want to compete. Also we will see teams that we haven’t raced against before so that will get us prepared for the important meets in the future,” said Senior Devin Butler.
Some people might think with the Urbana Track being remodeled it will cause problems for the track athletes, but the teams see this as a minor issue, if one at all. It will be interesting to see how much progress the Tigers have achieved since last year and how they will do despite the temporary loss of their home track.
