For many people all around the world, fall is a time for change. In some cases, this change comes in the new school year and for others it’s the new and different trends in clothing and accessories for the season. The biggest trends for Fall 2010 as seen on the runway include denim on denim, camel coats, military, over the knee boots and 50’s silhouettes.

Denim on Denim

Traditionally denim on denim is a fashion faux pas, but this season is graced the runway of 3.1 Philip Lim. To get this look right for everyday you need opposing weights, textures, and silhouettes. For example, an extremely light-weight denim top that has a light wash looks nice with dark wash jeans. Matchy denim does not usually work if you aren’t a model under the hands of Philip Lim.

Camel Coats

Camel coats are a huge trend and great investment for fall 2010. They were seen on the runways of several big name fashions designers, including 3.1 Philip Lim, Alexander Wang, Zac Posen and Hermes. Camel coats are practical as winter coats as the temperatures begin to drop. Oversized silhouettes and toggle details were especially big with main fashion designers.

Military

Military has been a trend since it was first seen on the runways in spring, but it can be a tricky trend to master. Too much of this trend can end up looking like a costume. To avoid this, go with a piece that has a military inspiration juxtaposed with something more feminine. Also avoid flashy or fake-looking details. Military looks were seen at Marc by Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta.

Lace

Lace was seen in a lot of looks as a major component of an outfit; Marc by Marc Jacobs had a white lace top and Dolce and Gabbana showed a black lace skirt. This trend can easily look dated, though, so keep the rest of your outfit more modern.

Over the Knee Boots

Over the knee boots were a trend last winter, and have come back this season. Such boots look good with a variety of outfits- from jeans to mini-dresses. Burberry Prorsum was among designers to show over the knee boots.

50’s Silhouette

Big name designers, such as Louis Vuitton and Prada, were keen on 1950’s inspired dress silhouettes. The classy silhouettes showcase higher necklines and A-line skirts. Such dresses are a great option for girls homecoming.
