Student Senate Plans Tailgreat
With homecoming this week, a few of the events that are held during the week would not be possible without Student Senate. Senate is in charge of the games and activities for the homecoming pep assembly and in charge of making Tailgreat happen. They put in a lot of effort to make these events possible. Both of events are on Friday, the same day as the Urbana vs. Centennial football game.
Last years pep assembly activities included teacher impersonations, a class dance off, and other various activities. “It is a fun event that the whole school can get excited about,” said Junior Abby Taylor. This year’s homecoming activities are not decided for sure.
There is still a lot to get done. Senate has to make rules for the games, gather needed supplies, and of course decide on which games will be used during the assembly. Tailgreat, which happens after the assembly and parade, is a great way for students to mingle and support various UHS clubs, sport teams and organizations by purchasing food from different clubs booths.
“There is a lot of school spirit and everyone comes together, and of course there is good food,” said Junior Anwen Parrot, who is on Senate. Clubs and organizations could pick up a flier on the senate door and sign up to get a booth for Tailgreat. The cost was $10 and they were supposed to be turned in by September 21, forms are no longer being accepted.
“I enjoy putting together these events because they are the one time throughout the year where we are really given time as an entire school to have school spirit and show our pride in Urbana,” said Senior and Senate president McKenzie Kirby.
