Making your own luck: Good luck charms

March is such a beautiful month. It brings us out of the freezing cold winter and into the beautiful spring and the messy wind that comes with it. It also brings us with St. Patrick’s Day!
St. Patrick’s Day started with religious purposes, but nowadays we mainly associate it with leprechauns, a McDonald’s Shamrock Shake, and luck. Which brings us to good luck charms!
Good luck charms are, literally, just good luck charms! They are just items that (we think) bring us good luck. What they are depends on the person. Sometimes it’s a ring, a necklace, a random object, a certain hairstyle. It could really be anything!
Sophomore Margaret Weber says that she has a “pretty unique” one. “I like to do a good luck outfit sometimes, especially if I have a hard AP World test that day,” she said.
Marie Trujillo-Mendez, sophomore, says that one of her necklaces gives her good luck, saying “..I sometimes will want to wear my necklace and whenever I do my day goes surprisingly well, which is rare.” She must not wear it all the time!
For Evonne Favors, luck doesn’t come from objects, but actions. So what brings her luck? “Prayer,” she said.
Besides a good luck charm, Trujillo-Mendez also believes in superstition.
“I do believe in not splitting the pole. I always think that if somebody splits the pole that means that person doesn’t really want to be your friend!” she laughed.
At the end of the day, we all need to feel lucky sometimes. Find what works for you!
