Spooky Season: Favorite Horror Movies
Tomorrow is the big day of Halloween! That’s when we run out to get the Pillsbury Ghost cookies and bags of candy that we think we will give out (the bag is finished before trick or treaters arrive…), but also means it is time to start the Roku devices (we all have one..) to watch all kinds of different horror movies!
Let’s see what the students of UHS think of their favorite horror movies!
Sophomore Danika Hardy likes to go with the classics, saying that Scream is one of her favorites.
“I just think it still holds up to movies nowadays. I think it just made horror the way it is now,” she said.
Sophomore Jaida Hayes doesn’t play at all, insisting that her favorite is Bride of Chucky.
For Hayes, it’s not really about the bride though, as “the character of Chucky himself is what makes it good in the first place.”
Marie Trujilio-Mendez, sophomore, took a different take on the question, saying that Terrifier is one of her favorites. This is probably a crazy take for most of us, but not for her!
“It doesn’t sugarcoat anything. You see it all in raw detail. [It] may be the weird and odd pick, but I like that it’s way different than other horror movies,” she said.
Sophomore Margaret Weber and junior Andrea Williams both share a favorite: IT.
Weber is all about the humor, saying “It’s just funny to watch, like it always makes me giggle somehow.”
Williams agreed with the humor, but also “liked that it digs deeper into the characters and the story in general.”
Finally, Senior Iman Rosaliana hailed The Babadook as one of her favorites…and one of the scariest.
“It was one of the best I’ve seen in a while. It’s so rich in storytelling, and it has important themes, but the jumpscares got to me and had me shivering in my damn boots!” she said.
Don’t have a favorite? Take advantage of the Halloween vibes and check one of these out!
