Club Chat!: Habitat For Humanity

Welcome back to Club Chat!

This week’s featured club is Habitat For Humanity.

Habitat For Humanity is an organized group that addresses the “housing inequality in our community and rural Mississippi, one of the poorest areas of the country),” according to social studies teacher and club co-sponsor Mark Foley.. The group takes trips twice a year to Mississippi to build houses that are then sold to community members at significantly reduced pricing with very low-interest mortgages.

These acts of service aren’t only limited to humans though. Habitat just recently built two dog houses in partnership with our own Champaign County Humane Society in order to raise funds.

Projects like these and “building community in our group” are exactly what keeps people coming back to Habitat every year, said Foley.

Habitat establishes a close-knit community between the students and teachers alike while coming together to do some good for the world and in our own backyard.

Sound like something you’re interested in? You can find them in room 2177 before and after school on Fridays. Both morning and afternoon meetings contain the same information, so students can pick which is more convenient for them to attend. Some meetings even have guest speakers that come in and talk about economic and housing issues currently happening!

Make sure to tune back in to The Echo on our website to keep up with Club Chat and so much more!
