Senior backpack trend takes over UHS

A new trend is taking over American high schools: senior backpacks. The trend came from the viral app TikTok and is even influencing students at UHS!This trend is so popular that if you search ‘senior backpacks’ many colorful creative little kid backpacks options will pop right up.

Seniors are bringing back old memories by wearing backpacks that bring them back to their first days in elementary school.

Senior year is usually pretty stressful so why not throw in a fun childish trend? Senior backpacks are essentially little kid backpacks that have fun cartoon characters or other kid-friendly themes on them. You would think most high schoolers would want to appear more mature and independent for their last year of high school, but clearly that’s not the case at Urbana High School.

“I heard about it through TikTok, but I also saw some seniors doing it when I was a junior,” said Lucia Lucero, who has a miniature Shopkins backpack.

Simone Aksimentyeva chose a Minions backpack as a nod to her past.

She “decided to follow the trend because it’s my last year of high school, and I wanted to end it with something I started it with.”

The main idea behind this is to bring out your childhood self one more time before you go off in the real world!

Like Aksimentyeva, Anthony Becerril also chose a backpack of a character that meant a lot to him as a child.

“I chose the Spider-man backpack because I grew up watching movies and shows about him,” he said.

As a bonus, Becerril’s even lights up!

This trend is a fun way to embrace your inner childhood and let loose on your last year.

Hopefully we will see lots more of these fun kiddie backpacks in the future at Urbana High School!
