Big goals for 2024
The year 2023 is coming to an end, and it seems everyone has something to say about it!
Many want to focus on the new year that is approaching quickly by beginning to set their New Year’s Resolutions.
“My new resolution is about time. I’ve heard all my life that ‘time waits for no one.’ Time is moving and before I know it I’ll be a Senior contemplating on what college to go to, what I want to do with my life, whether I should do this or that,” said freshman Naomi Kabuya.
She is using these beliefs to keep herself focused on achieving her goals.
“Just because time is moving doesn’t mean you stop moving. And one thing about time is that when it’s lost there’s no coming back for it. Whether it’s the best or worst time, it’s the only thing we have and we can’t waste it,” she added.
Freshman Margaret Weber is focusing more on other people than on herself.
Her resolution is “to have an amazing year with the people I love the most. Also to have a successful year in school, like to get good grades and to meet more people and socialize more,” she said.
Freshman Omega Lugano is focused on people as well, but looking at it from a different perspective.
“My New Year’s resolution is to hold myself to a higher standard and to not conform to the people around me that like to tear others down for the fun of it not knowing how it could affect them,” she said.
She wants to change her own perspective as well.
“I also want to walk in these halls with a smile on my face and have a mindset of ‘I get to go to school’ and not ‘ugh, I have to go to school’ [since] some don’t get the chance to have free education. I’m certainly not going to take it for granted!” she added.
And finally, everyone’s favorite New Year’s Resolution, courtesy of freshman Xavier Podroykin:
“My New Year’s resolution is probably common, but it’s definitely to make more money. As Lana del Rey said, ‘money is the reason we exist,’ and I definitely wouldn’t exist without money. It would solve all my problems, like, who said money doesn’t buy happiness?” he laughed.
Whether money can buy happiness remains to be seen, but happiness can come from setting goals and sticking to them.
Happy New Year, UHS!
