New rules in student parking lot
Monday, October 23 was the first day of the new student parking rules. The biggest change? The lot will no longer have assigned spots, but will be first come, first serve.
Students received an email from Principal Guzman stating:
“Student Parking Lot: When we return from the fall break on Monday, Oct. 23. The student parking lot will become first come, first serve in the parking spaces. You will no longer have an assigned spot. Only students who have purchased a parking sticker will be allowed to park in this lot.”
So why the change?
“We were getting so many emails of kids parking in kids spots and it would take me two to three hours a day and administration two to three hours a day to figure out who was in that spot,” said Student Interventionist Phil Sexton.
Which means that students with the little red parking sticker can still park in the student lot, but if you do not have that sticker, there is a chance that you can be towed!
Senior Alisa Tangmunarunkit supports the change. “I think even if you get to school late there are still parking spots open and it’s a lot cleaner than usual,” said she said.
Others have concerns.
“But I don’t like it. I didn’t pay forty dollars to share my parking spot with someone, let alone have my parking spot be taken by teachers and nothing happens,” said senior Alyssa Davis.
Teachers who are found in the student lot will be “asked to move,” according to Sexton.
Even with all these new rules about the student lot, you still need that little sticker in the corner of your window to properly park, so don’t try it!
