Football working towards a win
Although the Urbana Tigers haven’t had a varsity football team for the past three years, they are roaring through the season!
This is the first year for senior captain, #6 Luke Pankau. He wasn’t expecting to play, but when his now current teammates encouraged him, he gave it all he had and earned his starting spot. Now Pankau is the one encouraging others.
Pankau said the team “had originally thought that we were prepared, most of the guys believed that we could go out there and really make a dent in this year’s varsity schedule,” but continued to say “we are slowly building up that confidence to pull through with a win.”
Being one of the few upperclassmen, Pankau takes on the role of being a leader on the field and makes sure he’s a good role model for the underclassmen that look up to him.
#72, sophomore CJ Blanden, and #11, sophomore Kyree Hillsman, the other two team captains, have both been on the team for two years.
Blanden mentions that “the team is a little rocky, especially with such young players starting on the field” but continues to lead the team on and off the field. Hillsman agrees.
Though the season is coming to an end and with only having 5 upperclassmen on the team, the Tigers keep fighting out on the field and will continue to fight at this Friday’s home game against Manual.
