Fresh advice from upperclassmen
“High school is nothing like the movies,” according to senior Steven Griffith.
After years at UHS, juniors and seniors reflect on what they wish they knew as freshmen.
This includes missed opportunities, like knowing how useful the library can be. “I would have been better knowing more about the library and how much it has to offer. [It] could have helped me when I was starting at UHS,” said Junior Treyvion Johnson.
Junior Maya Moore learned that planning in advance can be hard without organization. “It would be nice to have a school calendar that contains the big events for the year (talent shows, school dances, etc…). This would allow non-gened peers more time to make plans to be a part of these events,” she said.
Other students have the same thoughts as Maya. They think the school should plan out the events in advance so they can think ahead and make more friends.
Juniors Jayde Brown and Jacarie Lee also know about “being able to access more information about after-school clubs; it might have encouraged [them] to participate in more things or to make more friends.”
Students also comment on the importance of staying true to yourself. Junior Aveon Vann says, “always be yourself, never let anybody change you”.
This goes for appearances too. Everybody dresses in different ways as junior Ian Peters says, ”nobody cares about what you look like, so don’t be worried!”
With this advice I hope that this will help other generation with their freshmen year.
