Renewal of Pledge sparks conversation
Students have been asking, wondering, and even disheartened because of an unexpected event that took place during the early morning announcements of October 11th: The Pledge of Allegiance.
So why did it start? Why now?
The answer to that question isn’t that interesting. According to Assistant Principal Julie Blixen, “It should have been happening all year, based on the Illinois law.” It was simply forgotten until now.
What is interesting has been the reaction, as the reinstatement of the pledge has sparked discussion among students and staff. If any of these conversations turn into action remains to be seen.
