The final game: the crowd comes back

After returning from break, sports were the talk of the school as the school board implemented new crowd guidelines. For three games in January, capacity was limited to four guests per player and no general admission tickets.

Since then, the rules have changed back to normal, just in time for the big for the big game: Senior Night!

“Having the crowd back gives and brings more energy and uplifts in the whole gym because without our fans, the gym is pretty much dead. The players would basically have to bring their own energy,” said junior Gedeon Kapongo.

Junior Kelenna Onyemere agrees. “The crowd mostly impacts the momentum in the game, when someone hits a big shot, you feel it when the crowd cheers. It makes the big plays feel even bigger,” he said.

Cheerleaders were also impacted by the change. “When our games were limited, it felt like a practice more than an actual game,” said junior Brooklyn Smith. “It’s weird not hearing chatter in the stands. It made the games less energetic!”

When rules change from the norm, it can be very difficult for all involved. But when they change right back for a good cause, it feels even better. As we get back to normal, players and fans look forward to what’s coming next!
