Students thankful for a week away from school
Thanksgiving break is upon us and for the first time ever, UHS will have a whole week away from school.
¨I’m happy about it because school has been stressful, and it would be good to have some time off,¨ says junior Devon McGhee. “I plan on cooking food. Hopefully my relatives will come over like usual, and overall we will just have a good time.”
Junior Amara Marlow agrees. ¨I [will] really enjoy having a whole week off to let myself rest and have a break from it all,” she said.
There are questions about why the district gave a “yes” to this plan. No specific reasoning has been given at this time.
Junior Nokota Campe believes the district made this choice to allow students “to spend time with our families and just relax.”
Others disagree. “I think they gave us a week off to clean the school and make a plan for the school with their mask issues,” said Marlow. McGhee believes this week off is due to the increasing Covid positivity numbers.
Despite the distinct giving us a whole week off from school, they are throwing in two days of e- learning.
¨I think the remote learning days will suck considering what teachers have done in the past with remote learning and their big assignments,” said Marlow.
Campe strongly agrees. ¨I wish that I did not have to do remote learning for two days. I wouldn’t want to get out of bed and it gives me trauma just thinking about it,” she said.
McGhee doesn’t mind. ¨As long it’s not Zoom, then I’m kind of okay with the idea of e-learning,” he said.
Like most of us, Brianna Manuel will spend the break “catching up on schoolwork, sleeping a little bit, going to work, and going Black Friday shopping.”
No matter how you spend it, this break is very much-needed and something students can be thankful for.
