The coronavirus, at its height in March of 2020, impacted every high schooler in some way. It shut down events all around the world, forced us in the house, and left many feeling that all of their future plans were ruined.

Now that we’re back in school, there’s some exciting events to look forward to this year, especially for seniors.

Senior Jordan Tatum is wanting the full senior experience.

“I’m looking forward to prom and homecoming because I get to finally have that experience of prom for the first time”. [I] get to hang out with my friends again and get all dressed up. [It] is an experience I didn’t know I would get to have [because of the coronavirus] last year,” he said.

As it is homecoming season, senior dances are a popular topic right now. As senior Ladan Daniels pointed out, we all have to remember that there’s still a deadly virus out there, and it still plays a big role in whether the dances are going to happen.

“My thoughts on this are a little scarce because of COVID. Just because we’re back in school, doesn’t mean we can go back to pre-covid life. The Delta Virus might hold us back from all activities, and especially senior activities,” he said.

Senior Ethanh Sayavongsa differs from many of his peers, preferring to focus on the end goal. has a neutral opinion when it comes to this

“I’m looking forward to graduating high school and nothing else this year,” he said, “and when it comes to the senior activities, it might not [even] happen because of COVID.”

It’s a hot topic right now, but will we have the full Senior experience this year?

Senior class sponsor Felicia Tufano is optimistic. “Unless State of Illinois guidelines change, we are 100% having a homecoming pep assembly and dance. I hope that this will give us the momentum to continue celebrating other traditional events safely, such as prom and senior trip.”
