Her body, her choice. Or, not your body, not your choice

Recently, Texas passed what many are calling an abortion ban, basically stating that after 6 weeks of pregnacy, women will no longer be able to legally get an abortion.

Many women across the country were outraged.

“Never should a state have a right to ban or change a supreme court law. They’re limiting people to have safe abortions. People will have abortions no matter what, but they won’t be safe [ones],” said English teacher Taryn Smith.

Former student Ezra Nash is concerned about how this could happen any time, or any day, to anybody.

“At this point in time, it does not affect me because I’m not pregnant or living in Texas, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t wrong. An infringement on any woman’s rights is an infringement on my own. If Texas could do it, think about all the other places that may follow behind,” she said.

For many, this is an example of men making choices for women’s bodies.

“Texas doesn’t promote teaching about other forms of birth control; [focus on] limiting abortions and defunding places like Planned Parenthood, only resulting in health issues specifically in women. It’s just mostly enraging,” said Smith.

There are questions as to why a government feels they need a say on what a woman can or cannot do with her body or her life. For many women, the things Texas lawmakers are doing are changing lives, and not for the better.

“Why do men have the need to butt into a women’s business anyway? They [the government of Texas] mix religion with their politics, and honestly if they feel the need to take the advantages away from women, they could just go to hell. Our bodies aren’t objects, even though men like [them] treat them as such,” said senior Kimmy June.

While texas have the idea of banning resourceful options for women,other states are teaching proper sex education for both men and women so it will not always have to lead and result in abortion.
