Who’s perfect?
We all have insecurities, and the society we live in makes them worse. Why can’t we just let people live their lives? See, the world we live in has a tendency to make people feel less worthy, especially when it comes to our bodies.
Social media can make men and women starve themselves to achieve the “ideal,” leading to eating disorders to please our society. In an age of social media, some of these situations can even be normalized.
It seems like people get so wrapped up in the world on how they see people, they feel the need to try and change the way people look. The internet is full of oh she’s not skinny enough to be a model, she shouldn’t wear a bikini or omg you’re so skinny. Do you even eat, you should try gaining a little bit of weight“
“I feel like people have such a strain on how plus size women and girls look. They want us to have this small and waist, big butt with no stretch marks or this skinny girl with long legs, and it’s the same with skinny girls too. It’s like they are more focused on how we all can’t be this perfect bodied human being, whatever perfect is anyway.”
Manual agrees. “I think it started from one person being held to a high standard and being deemed ‘perfect’ so now everyone else wants to be seen that way,” she said.
Unfortunately, this can lead to eating disorders. “I think of mental health issues or medical issues,” said Brianna Manuel.
Kaitlyn Shackleford had a similar reasoning. “I think of someone eating an unhealthy amount of food (too much or too little), it’s usually due to life situations/circumstances,” she said. And of course, outside pressure.
There shouldn’t be a certain way a person has to look to be known as “beautiful,” we are all made a certain way for a reason. Next time you see the “perfect” person on instagram, remember that you are perfect, too.
