Finding a positive during hard times

The Covid-19 pandemic has made life difficult. Everyone in the world has been affected by this virus.  On the news a lot we see the negative effects of covid and how we can’t have somethings that we would be able to have if covid never happened. What isn’t shown much is the small positives that we have because of the pandemic and the stay at home orders.

Though it might not seem like a lot, some people have found a silver lining to the pandemic.

“In my experience (as well as a few members and friends of mine), the stay at home order due to COVID had given me the time to take up a few new hobbies,” said sophomore Rebecca Headley. “I started making kandi bracelets during my time stuck at home. I found it very calm and fun to do!”

It wasn’t just hobbies, work changed for a lot of people, too.

Steven Wallis, Vice President of Natera Genetics, travelled 3-4 days a week away from home for the last 23 years. For him, the pandemic allowed him to just enjoy being home and with his family and not always away.Wallis doesn’t miss travelling “not even a little bit. In fact I will not be looking forward to when we have to travel again,” he said.

Even though a lot of us have not been able to see a lot of our families, some of us have been able to see even more of our families.

For Marseille Greer, a silver lining of Covid has been “getting to see some family I haven’t seen in awhile because they have more time to see us.”

Whether it be with hobbies, work, or family, trying to find a bright side can bring some positivity, even in the hardest of times.
