Sprite Cranberry
Sprite Cranberry. To most people those words just mean a drink that they might have had once. Maybe they liked it, maybe they didn’t. However, to people around my age, the words Sprite Cranberry mean so much more than an everyday soda. Sprite Cranberry means holiday cheer and laughs with your friends. Currently in its third year of being memed, this amazing beverage stays relevant to members gen z all around the world.
In the ancient year of 2013, Sprite Cranberry was released to the masses as a seasonal flavor for the holiday season. This was Sprite’s first new flavor since 2005 and the beverage world couldn’t have been more excited. Or at least that’s what Sprite hoped would happen.
Sales were low all the way until 2018 when Sprite reused its commercial from the year before featuring a claymation DRAM and this random dude named LeBron James saying his now infamous quote “Wanna Sprite Cranberry?”
This single line launched the holiday meme that is still alive today. Meme videos were on every platform, racking up septillions of views and likes, prompting millennials and gen z kids to go grab a Sprite Cranberry to wash down their Tide Pods.
Sprite Cranberry was everywhere and not just because it was a huge meme, it was actually a good drink. The amazing taste of Sprite Cranberry still lives on in the form of Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry and in the hearts of Urbana High School seniors, myself included.
“Last time I drank Sprite Cranberry, I blacked out. When I woke up it was a week later and I had finished all homework for the next semester,”said Max Pociask.
Senior Otis Mitchell’s experience with Sprite Cranberry wasn’t as dramatic. “It’s pretty good. I like it better than normal Sprite.”
So head on down to your local grocery store and grab a Sprite Winter Spiced Cranberry. Maybe watch some memes while sipping on the heavenly beverage and think about how the same generation that made a Sprite commercial into a meme is the future of our country.
Boo!
