Get in the Winter Mood With This Mug Cake!
Sure, you can find a ready-made mix for every baked good out there. But this year, COVID-19 has made it harder to go out, and many of us just want to stay home. This easy mug cake recipe makes a fun treat using spare ingredients lying around your home!
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 3 tablespoons 3/2 oz melted butter
- 3 tablespoons whole milk at room temperature
- 1 egg at room temperature
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon water
Directions:
- In a 2 cup capacity or larger mug, whisk flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt with a fork until combined.
- Add in the melted butter, milk, egg and vanilla.
- Use your fork to whisk until it is well combined, and no flour mixture is stuck to the bottom.
- Dump a tablespoon of water on top of the batter. Do not mix it.
- Cook in the microwave on full power for 1 minute and 20 seconds to 2 minutes or until the cake rises to the top and the water has been absorbed into the center.
- If you want a molten interior, do not over bake. Check after 1 minute 20 seconds , and add 5-10 seconds at a time until desired doneness is reached.
- Remove from the microwave and let it cool for 3-5 minutes.
- Top with anything of your choice! Some of my favorites are whipped cream, crushed candy canes and caramel.
Enjoy this cold-weather treat by yourself, or make multiple to eat with family!
Happy Winter!
