Sweet treats for a bitter time
If you’re like me, then this stay at home order has been making you absolutely stir crazy! To deal with my boredom, I’ve found that I’ve spent a lot of time on my phone, especially on TikTok, home of not just dances, but fun and fairly easy snack recipes. See below for recipes that will curb your boredom and your hunger pangs!
Lava Mug Cake Courtesy of @quarantinetreats on Tik Tok
This was probably the trickiest recipe because of the sheer amount of ingredients it took. It was definitely worth it though, and I would recommend it for a night that you’re really craving chocolate! For an extra treat on top of this treat, add some whipped cream to it! (Pay attention as you’re heating the mug cake up, it rises fast!)
Recipe (makes one serving)
- ¼ cup flour
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoon cocoa powder
- Pinch of salt
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- Mix
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Mix
- Pour chocolate chips in the middle of the mixture
- Drizzle a bit of water over the chocolate chips
- Microwave for 1:30 minutes and enjoy!
“Starbucks” Vanilla Bean Frap Courtesy of @ava_berube on TikTok
I liked this drink a lot but I felt that it was too sugary! After making it, I would recommend less sugar, maybe ⅕ cup or ⅙ cup but it’s all about preference! I made this drink for my sister and I and I can safely say that it’s best consumed outside in the sun!
Recipe (Makes two large servings!)
- ⅓ cup of sugar
- 1 cup of milk
- ⅓ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups of ice
- Blend and enjoy!
Mango and Pineapple Smoothie Courtesy of @twincoast on Tik Tok, but you can also check out their website for more recipes @twincoast.blog
I’ve made this smoothie several times because I’m so obsessed with it! This smoothie is healthy, sweet and the perfect breakfast treat, or snack for later in the day when your ice cream cravings hit! I highly recommend this smoothie, but I would advise patience when making it. The frozen mango takes a while to blend at times!
Recipe (makes two servings)
- 2 cups frozen mango
- 1 cup pineapple
- ¼ cup orange juice
- Blend!
Edible Cookie Dough Courtesy of @kylamorales18 on TikTok
This recipe was a little more complicated, but only because there were a lot of ingredients to keep track of. My mom doesn’t love it when I eat raw cookie dough (salmonella!) so I found the perfect solution! There are no eggs in this recipe and it tastes just like the regular egg-filled dough! It was delicious and fun to make, I recommend trying this during a movie night with your family if you’re craving something sweet instead of salty popcorn.
Recipe (makes one snack-size serving!)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 4 tablespoon flour
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons of milk
- ⅛ tablespoon vanilla
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Mix!
- Chocolate chips
- Mix some more and enjoy!
Staying at home for an extended period of time is difficult but finding something to keep your hands busy might decrease the amount of boredom you’ve been feeling. Just remember, quarantine won’t last forever, and when this is over you can share some fun recipes with your friends too!
