A Week Later: The Death of Kobe Bryant
The NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his teenage daughter, Gianna Bryant, were killed in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020 on their way to the Staples Center for a youth basketball game in California.
This hurt everybody, he wasn’t only a famous basketball player but he was a father, mentor, and leader.
Senior, Chris Cross, says “I think celebrity deaths hit hard because they are people that are looked up to by others as inspiration and motivation.”
Though many are focusing solely on the Bryants, two other girls who played on the team with Gianna, Alyssa Altobelli and Payton Chester, were also on the plane, as well as their parents.
The world will never get over this type of hurt, but Kobe Bryant’s legend will live forever.
“His death was sad to me, but I really know how to handle deaths, so when people die, I don’t know how to show emotion. It’s somewhat surreal in this case though because you would have never thought something like this would happen,” says Cross.
It’s such a heart break because Kobe and Gianna had a great father-daughter relationship. Twitter user Kaptisha Dickson highlights this, saying “Maybe he took the daughter [with him], he knew would have the hardest time without him,” says Kaprisha Dickson.
The world continues to show their deep support to the family all over social media. Keep the Bryant family, the Lady Mambas, Altobellie and Chester families in your thoughts!
