Tigers show strength in home opener
The game everybody had been waiting on came and went on Tuesday: the first home game against cross-town rivals, Centennial High School.
It was an intense game for the Tigers.
After the JV game came to a close with a narrow loss, the Varsity team came out ready to play hard. And they did, taking the win over Centennial with a score of 59 to 47.
Senior Chris Cross says, “We played good team basketball last night. We got off to a slow start in the first quarter, but we got it together.”
Even though it was a lot of pressure on the team, they still remain humble.
New player, junior Amario Turner, ended the game off with 13 points. “It feels good to win my first home game here but I still felt like I didn’t play to my full potential but it was a good game,” Turner says.
Junior Jermale Young says, “I felt like we did what we had to do to get this win, it was a pretty ugly win because we couldn’t hit our shots, so we had to get it in on the defensive end, but a win is a win!”
No matter what, the team didn’t give up. They kept their heads in the game
“We stuck through until the end and managed to get the Win,” says senior Bryson Tatum.
The gym was packed, and it was all good vibes.
“The atmosphere was good, the city came out to support and we need that every game,” says Cross.
Come out tonight to help the team get another win! JV kicks off the game at 5:00 against Peoria Manual, followed by Varsity at 7:30 in the Oscar Adams Gym.
