Class of 2020 reflection
The class of 2020’s high school careers are coming to a close as they begin to finalize their plans for the future.
As they make plans for college, begin to say goodbye to their high school activities, and make their final memories, it seems like the class of 2020 is hopeful for their lives post-high school.
Many in the class of 2020 are currently stressed over college applications, but the most stressful part seems to be waiting for an answer.
Jael Lugano “hope[s] that by the end of the year [she] will have been accepted to the U of I at Champaign-Urbana to major in technical systems management. Hopefully I am still employed at Oberweis, and I hope to have a few scholarships under my belt to help pay for college.”
Khaled Messai knows where his number one choice is for college. “If everything goes perfectly, [he] will receive [his] Harvard acceptance letter in December.”
“After high school I’ll go to Parkland for my associate’s degree and continue to work at Napleton’s, save some money, and go back to school eventually,” Alex Stivers explains.
Some people in the class of 2020 are less sure of where exactly they want to go, even if they know that they do want to go to college.
Jensen Krueger “sees [herself] at the end of the year choosing a college to attend and [her] major.”
Right now, the biggest obstacle standing in the way of the class of 2020 is time management.
Lugano acknowledges that “there is always so much to do, but so little time. I hope by the end of the year I learn to prioritize better and manage time, so I can achieve what I need to achieve.”
Krueger is on the same page, as her biggest obstacle will be “balancing friends, work, and school.”
Another worry on the mind is getting into selective colleges, as Messai worries that the “5% acceptance rate at Harvard is a major obstacle and I will probably have to apply to more places.”
Overall, the class of 2020 is excited to finish high school, but looking forward to the memories they will make along the way.
Lugano is most excited about “the senior prank, the [senior] hangouts, powder puff game, prom, and the senior trip.”
“I’m looking forward to next summer because I’m planning on traveling and going to music festivals,” Messai explains.
Stivers is looking forward to “graduating and walking the stage to receive my diploma. Finally all the time and effort put into school will pay off.
