Memories from the class of 2019
Four years have gone by fast, so UHS seniors are taking a moment to reflect on their favorite memories.
The hard work and dedication that seniors have put into school these last four years not only strengthened their academic skill, but taught them lessons for the future they won’t forget.
“Being in Mr. Davis’s APUSH was really difficult, but I had a lot of friends in the class that helped me get through it. Also the fact that I was able to survive in such a hard class makes me proud,” says Erin Wright.
Some of the best memories from school are not only made in the classroom, but outside of it during extracurriculars.
Grace Yepez-Connors enjoyed “being able to bond with my friends. Theatre and Habitat for Humanity is something I’ll miss.”
“My favorite high school memory was the last day of the show Newsies. We were all sad for it to be ending but happy at the same time. I am grateful to have spent time with them and overall happy that I got a chance to be in theatre,” Marisa Pounginjai says.
Participating in sports in high school also brings many memories. Being able to be apart of a team offers a bonding experience like no others. Marlee Glenn says, “My favorite memory is being on the softball team. I am so grateful for having a bond with my teammates. They have been there for me all four years and I’m so happy to have been a part of Urbana athletics.”
Achievements gained from working hard brings a sense of accomplishment and pride that stays with students. Elin Skottene remarks that, “Seeing all my hard work from marching band pay off when we won best percussion and first place at our last competition is my favorite memory.”
Certain high school traditions, like the celebrations held around homecoming is something seniors will miss as they move on from high school. “Every year homecoming week is always a favorite of mine, especially this year on class color day,” says Kalika Shapiro.
Memorable experiences that will be hard to replicate after high school are the ones made on field trips. Aiah Radwan says, “I had so much fun on the NHS (National Honor Society) field trip this year. Being able to eat and hang out with my friends was so great.”
High school offers times like no others, from freshman orientation to graduation, memories that are made will last a lifetime. Despite the class of 2019’s time at UHS coming to an end, it is apparent that they won’t be letting these memories go anytime soon.
