NFC Offseason Needs
With the NFL draft rapidly approaching, teams are running out of time to make the hard choice of who to add to their rosters this offseason. We have already discussed the AFC, now it’s time for the NFC. Here are our suggestions;
Arizona Cardinals: Offensive Line; Even though the Cardinals will most likely use their first round pick on defensive end Joey Bosa, they should look for one or two offensive linemen later in the draft. Josh Rosen needs to feel comfortable in the pocket if he is going to reach his full potential.
Suggested pick: OT Jonah Williams, Alabama
Atlanta Falcons: Defensive End; Quarterback Matt Ryan and wide receiver Julio Jones are simply amazing and will continue to dominate this offense… but the defense needs to step up their game if this team wants to get back to the playoffs.
Suggested pick: DE Clelin Ferrell, Clemson
Carolina Panthers: Wide Receiver; Quarterback Cam Newton is a great quarterback who can rush and throw, and no one can question that. And the Panther’s only elite offensive weapon, Christian McCaffery can catch, run, and do almost anything else you need him to. The problem is, McCaffery is a RUNNING back, so they need a wide receiver to help him do less catching and more running.
Suggested pick: WR Marquise Brown, Oklahoma
Chicago Bears: Kicker; Cody Parkey got the job done. Sometimes. Not always. Definitely not in the playoffs. If he had, who knows what the Bears could’ve done down the road. Kicker Robbie Gould would be ideal, but San Francisco put the franchise tag on him. The draft will provide plenty of options for the Bears to choose from.
Suggested pick: K Chase McLaughlin, Illinois
Dallas Cowboys: Head Coach; Although Jason Garrett was selected as a Pro Bowl coach this past year, he has shown that he cannot consistently win, especially when it matters most. Dallas has the pieces, now they just need someone to put the puzzle together.
Suggested hire: Lincoln Riley
Detroit Lions: Wide Receiver; Quarterback Matt Stafford’s stats have not been the same since Calvin ‘Megatron’ Johnson retired. Trading Golden Tate to the Eagles last year did not help his stats either. There is no doubt that they should use the eighth overall pick to grab a wide receiver.
Ideal pick: WR D.K. Metcalf, Ole Miss
Green Bay Packers: Defensive End; As long as Aaron Rodgers is on the Packer’s roster, their offense should not be the biggest focus. Green Bay should try to trade picks with one of the teams in the top fiveto grab some young defensive talent.
Suggested pick: DE Josh Allen, Kentucky
Los Angeles Rams: Healthy Cooper Kupp; After the tragedy that was the Rams’ offense in Super Bowl 53, most eyes focused on the players that played that game, but maybe we should focus more on those that did not play. Cooper Kupp may have changed that game had he played…
Suggested signing: WR Golden Tate (a reliable target in case Kupp goes down)
Minnesota Vikings: The Kirk Cousins they payed for; This year, Kirk Cousins played great… for the first few games. Then he had to face contending teams like the Patriots, Rams, Saints, and Bears, who showed that maybe 84 million dollars was a little bit too much.
Suggested signing: Bring back reliable backup QB Teddy Bridgewater
New Orleans Saints: Linebacker; Take away a missed pass interference call and the Saints would most likely have been in the Superbowl, although their linebacking core was a glaring hole on the team.
Suggested pick: ILB Devin Bush, Michigan
New York Giants: Quarterback from draft: Eli Manning is not getting any younger.. They need to find his successor this year because next year’s focus will most likely be a wide receiver since Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was recently traded..
Suggested pick: QB Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State
Philadelphia Eagles: Keep Wentz healthy: Backup quarterback Nick Foles is gone and Philly fans do not seem to be too happy about his departure. Now it all falls on quarterback Carson Wentz to show why they gave him the starting job last year.
Suggested hire: Extra medical staff
San Francisco 49ers: Protection for Jimmy Garoppolo: Jimmy G showed his elite skill set in the 2017-18 season as a franchise quarterback, and that skill set might be what pushes the Niners over the edge and into the playoffs.
Suggested signing: OG Mark Glowinski
Seattle Seahawks: Backup quarterback: Quarterback Russell Wilson is not going anywhere anytime soon, besides running downfield. He is undeniably one of the best running quarterbacks in the league, but that might be a bad thing. Wilson is not known for giving up any free yardage he could have taken, and sometimes he takes a beating as a result.
Suggested signing: QB Sam Bradford
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jameis Winston to play like a first overall pick: Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston were both drafted in 2015, and neither are elite quarterbacks. Mariota has performed much better when he stays healthy, even though Winston was picked first. Time for Winston to step up or step out, especially after losing wide receivers Adam Humphrey and Desean Jackson as targets.
Suggested pick: Offensive weapon
Washington Redskins: Draft a quarterback: The Redskins just could not catch a break last year with quarterbacks Alex Smith and Colt McCoy catching the injury bug . Nobody knows when Alex Smith will return to football, but it will not be this year. Quarterback Case Keenum is a quick fix to a long term issue.
Suggested pick: QB Daniel Jones, Duke
