Early Grad: Shyanee Bufford
What steps did you take to graduate early?
- It was fairly easy for me. I always stayed on top of my stuff before I decided to graduate early, so I didn’t have to take extra steps. I just talked with my counselor and decided this is what i want to do.
How is being an early grad going for you so far?
- It pushes you to be more responsible because the teachers are not staying on you about your work and what you’re missing, so if you fall behind, the grade just drops. It is going well and I’m learning new things. College is a fun experience, but you have to manage study time and fun time well.
What school do you attend?
- I attend Parkland for the semester and will transfer to Indiana State in the fall to get my Bachelor’s in Nursing.
How is starting over in a new environment working?
- It was hard since I don’t know anyone or where to go since it was a new school, but I adapted quickly!
How do you prepare for the course work?
- I was not prepared for the homework. Although it sometimes is not quite hard, it is a lot of work per class and takes a lot of time to finish. Late work is not accepted and if you miss class, you miss the notes unless you get them from a friend.
Does graduating early affect your friendships?
- I don’t see them as often, since we don’t go to the same school, but we text and talk on the phone often.
Do you miss high school?
-Yes and No. I do miss how teachers stay on you more, how there’s more structure. Yet, you get more freedom in college.
