Book Review: Hope In The Dark by Pastor Craig Groeschel

Hope In The Dark: Believing God is Good When Life is Not by Midwestern Pastor Craig Groeschel is a book meant to show people how to get through the hard times in their lives.  Groeschel dedicates the book for his friend Adrianne, but “…also for anyone who is hurting and doesn’t understand why.”

Adrianne’s story is heartbreaking: her husband left her to marry her best friend and her daughter died of cancer.  I couldn’t make it through this introduction without crying, so if you do read it, make sure you have some tissue on standby.

The larger point of Groeschel’s book is that a lot of us get hurt and sometimes we just don’t understand why we are hurting. Groeschel tries to answer why we have struggles in this life, using several theological sources such as scholars and verses from the bible to try to answer that question.

This book is a great book for anyone who likes to read stories on other people’s trauma and to learn how to overcome their own. Though this is a Christian book with religious themes, it is a great book for anyone of any religion to read.

If you find yourself a fan of this book, you might also like one Groeschel’s other books including The Christian Atheist and Dare to Drop The Pose.
