The Urbana Tiger Marching Band loaded onto four buses, eager and energetic on Saturday, October 6th, headed for the Limestone Marching Rockets Competition. The rainy weather that covered almost half of Illinois was concerning to everyone in the band, but their positivity never dissipated.

Band members had been preparing all week with a sense of confidence and focus that amazed the directors and student leaders in the band. Senior Logan Sarver, section leader of the sousaphones, says “I believe the ideas of competitions being really important and us being serious about them really fueled our work ethic in the week before the competition.”

This work ethic clearly payed off, because the band placed third in class 3A and won Best winds in class 3A. Winning Best Winds at Limestone gave the band something to show for all their hard work (besides halftime shows).

Sophomore Max Pociask, clarinet section leader, says “Getting that award shows that people are recognizing the band for all the hard work we put into the show, and all of the band members feel more confident in their abilities now that they’ve gotten recognized.”

The band will need all the confidence it can get as they have their last competition of the 2018 season on October 20th at El Paso Gridley High School. They will be performing in a class along with the Paxton-Buckley-Loda Band and the Champaign Centennial Marching Chargers. The Urbana Tiger Marching Band is scheduled to perform at 7 pm, so be sure to come out and support.
