Teacher Spotlight: Christopher Joung
Background information:
Christopher Joung was born in Chicago and grew up in the Northwest suburb of Glenview. He was involved in volleyball and math team in high school. Joung attended the University of Illinois for undergrad and grad school. Last year, he became a math teacher at UHS. He enjoys working out, playing basketball, and being involved in his church.

Why did you become a teacher:
“It was my senior year of college. I was at a winter retreat for church when I realized teachers have high influence on the next generation. They help build up students in character and help them be successful in life through academics.”
What’s your favorite memory of teaching:
Building relationships with students and being able to care for them as people, even outside of school.
Why did you choose Urbana:
“I love the math department and I love the staff. The students here are very diverse I enjoyed my time being with them [last year]. I felt welcomed and wanted to help the students here and get to know them. This was a place I could help care for the kids and feel supported by staff.”
