Teacher brings therapy horses to UHS
Therapy animals have been shown to help with different kinds of disorders. Dr. Daniel Storage, Professor of Psychology at the University of Colorado at Denver states that therapy animals “…have long histories of scientific research illustrating that, with a competent therapist, these therapies can vastly improve the lives of people with anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, and myriad other psychological disorders.”
Though many are familiar with therapy animals such as dogs and cats, miniature horses as therapy animals may be less familiar.
“I’m not aware of any therapies that utilize miniature horses, but I imagine the same principles of animal therapy would apply. I think it would be helpful and fun!” states Storage.
The horses will be in White’s classes, as well as Laura Kortiz’s psychology classes on Wednesday, September 26th.
Keep an ear out for some neighs!
