Parkland, Florida Shooting Brief
On Wednesday, February 14, a former student of Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida opened fire on his former classmates.
Nikolas Cruz, 19, shot and killed 17 people after 3 p.m., putting at least 15 more in the hospital.
Earlier in the day, SM Douglas High School held a fire drill, so when additional alarms went off in the afternoon, many thought it was just another fire drill. Instead, the alarms were meant to warn students and staff of the shooter entering the building.
The eighth school shooting since the beginning of 2018, the Parkland, Florida shooting is also the third shooting within five months to be added to the 10 Deadliest Mass Shootings list.
