“The Interview” Causes Controversy

The Interview has been one of the most controversial movies of 2014 so far. The political satire comedy film came out unofficially way before it hit box offices. If you’ve seen the film, you know exactly why it took so long.

The film, directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, are about two journalists (Rogen and James Franco) who score a huge interview with North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un. It comes at a time when there is still a lot of suspense about North Korea and their nuclear weapon capabilities.

The CIA finds the journalists before they go and asks them to assassinate the leader. Obviously this is very controversial and North Korea wouldn’t take it lightly.

The movie was supposed to be released in October by Columbia Pictures, but they delayed it to December due to the Sony hack. The “Guardians of Peace,” a group believed to be involved with North Korea, hacked into Sony’s system and leaked a few of their upcoming movies. But they didn’t stop there; the group demanded that Sony completely pull The Interview which they referred to as “the movie of terrorism”.

On Dec. 17, Sony did just that. They canceled the release of the movie, which drew much controversy and caused a huge stir in the media world. Initially they had no intentions of releasing the film period, but they made it available for online rental on Dec. 24 and it released in a select few theaters the next day.

“I thought it was a really funny movie. I didn’t really know there was so much controversy surrounding it but when I found out it just made me want to see it more,” said Junior Miranda Powers.

The movie is out of theaters now, but if you get a chance definitely watch it online sometime.
