Broadcasting has been a part of the Urbana High School program for some years now and is still expanding. It has improved many student’s audio/visual skills and helped them gain interest for their college experience as well. For instance, one member, Abram Washington, wants to pursue a career in broadcasting at whichever college he decides to attend.

The program has had members from years ago that are currently in college getting their education. Miguel Fierro, who is attending Olivet College and Myles Kelley, who is attending the University of Alabama.

The current members of Broadcasting are Stanley Godia, Greg Boyd, Joey Wright and Abram Washington.

A recent event that was attended by broadcasting members was the IHSA Football Playoffs. A little before that was the drawing of the grants at the Idea Store for C-U schools. Both of these opportunities show great growth in the program and the developing positive reputation the group has in the community.

“I felt great, it was a good experience,” said Senior Abram Washington.

Throughout the years, many events have been covered by Broadcasting.

“My favorite event was the IHSA Basketball Sectionals held in Bloomington last year. It was fun,” said Senior Stanley Godia.

The committee has improved The Echo in so many ways throughout the years. It has brought in more viewers and led to the publication getting paid for their work.

“Broadcasting has helped with publicizing, and helped gain exposure. The only downfall is IHSA making viewers pay to watch our stream, losing viewers,” said UHS Athletic Director Greg Hall.

The program can be viewed on Channel 6 the following Saturday for viewers who do not want to pay to watch the stream.

All in all, Broadcasting is a great committee of The Echo and is expanding every year.
