School Uniforms at UHS
There are quite a few reasons why school uniforms are a bad idea.
School uniforms don’t let student express him or herself. Some people show how they are feeling through what clothes they wear. This sometimes lets the adults know if a student is depressed if its not showing in their grades like if they switch from neon colors or just cheerful things to things with skulls and dark stuff.
Also, statistics show that in 2009–10, fewer high schools, only 10 percent, made students wear uniforms while 19 percent of middle schools and 22 percent of primary schools had uniforms. Depending on what type of uniform and how many options of shirts, pants colors or skirts it can be more expensive then regular clothes we typically get. Parents against uniforms do not like the idea mainly because they are just more money to spend on clothes just to hear us complain daily or in general, often.
In high school people are most of the time more mature and don’t care as much what others wear, so you can’t really say its to decrease bullying like they do for the elementary and middle schools.
Some students are against uniforms because they are not comfortable in them or the idea of them at all and in some cases have been known to avoid school because of it.
Often school uniforms are made of heavy, non-breathable material, which can make students very uncomfortable on hot humid days.
UHS does have school pride and expresses it often, but making the students wear uniforms will decrease this. Not many students will be okay with the idea of uniforms.
In general, school is a place where diversity is celebrated. A uniform decreases this too. Some students that follow certain religions have to wear certain things or not wear others.
While out and about you can easily recognize which students are from your school, but that also has a bad side, what if you have some students not as mature as others with you and they act up, everyone will know exactly which school it was.
In conclusion, The annual uniform sales is $1,300,000,000, Money that could be spent on much better things that would not get complained about often.
