Lake Zurich High School Senior Prank Makes National News
students were distributed to students and posted in a few bathrooms
before classes Tuesday morning at Lake Zurich High.
“I have not seen, nor do I know much about the letter. It is my
understanding that it was a ‘senior prank’ and thankfully no one was
harmed,” Lake Zurich Unit District 95 Board President Tony Pietro told
the Daily Herald.
According to staff, the flier was brought to their attention by a
student and they were able to collect 50 copies of the flier. However,
the school suspects there was up to 100 fliers distributed.
Seven seniors from Lake Zurich High who were involved in the prank
have been identified and the matter is being handled internally.
“I do know that the students that are responsible for this prank, are
being disciplined in accordance with the School District’s Code of
Conduct,” said Pietro.
According to statements made by various students to the Chicago
Tribune, most students laughed off the prank. However, some found it
problematic.
A Lake Zurich High alumni, Becca Marshalla told the Chicago Tribune
the language used in the letter promoted ideas of rape and
molestation.
Lake Zurich High is not the only school plagued with inappropriate
senior pranks. A Minnesota school recently experienced a similar prank
where letters with the same message were hand delivered to mailboxes.
