Sitara: Food review
Many staff members at Sitara formerly worked at Bombay Indian Grill on Green Street, but the new restaurant has attracted employees as well as customers to downtown Urbana. There is plenty of comfortable booths seating inside, and the friendly staff will be happy to help.
Meat lovers might try the Sitara Mix Biryani; a rice-based dish with shrimp, chicken, and lamb served with the chef’s special biryani masalsa sauce. The serving size of the biryani is very plentiful, and a customer will certainly not leave hungry if they choose this dish.
Lighter options include the Mix Vegetable Curry, which contains assorted vegetables sautéed in spices and herbs and cooked in Sitara’s flavorful curry sauce. All entrees are served with a choice of rice or naan; which is always warm, soft and fresh.
For those who can handle some spice, Sitara serves a variety of fiery dishes labeled “spicy” on the menu so those with more delicate palates don’t make a mistake they will regret for the remainder of the meal. The warm naan is a great way to balance and smother the intense heat of their spicier dishes, and they also serve a variety of specialty beverages to drown out the spice.
“Sitara is definitely one of my favorite restaurants, and probably the best Indian place in town,” said UHS Junior Simon Pokorny. “Everything I’ve tried on the menu is great.”
Sitara is located directly across Race Street from Busey bank, the former location of the Black Rock Pizza Company. Sitara has been getting great business since its grand opening on September 3rd 2013, and they don’t show any signs of slowing down as more and more people try the new restaurant. Sitara Indian Restaurant and Lounge serves quality authentic food and brings much needed business to downtown Urbana.
