There are many things Urbana High School is proud of: the athletic department, another the art department, and lastly all the different types of people they have in the school.

When walking down the halls of Urbana High School, you will see many different types of people walking together, talking, and just having a good time with friends.

“I have so many different friends at Urbana, I’m African American, but I have Hispanic, Native, Chinese, and many more different types of people as my friends,” said Tori Washington, Senior.

But though they think of this as normal, many schools don’t. There are many schools that are not as diverse as UHS.

“I go to a small school out in the country, we don’t really have big differences in the teenagers that go there. When I saw Urbana for the first time I was shocked. I didn’t know you could have so many people in one place, from different cultures, and have them get along so well,” said Brody Cole, Junior at Heritage High School.

“I switched out of Urbana High School and went to Danville for the rest of High School. It was so strange, they had a certain set of people there, while I was used to everyone being from different places, and looking, and acting differently. It took awhile to get used to,” said Josh Cox, former Urbana High School student.

Though many schools may not have the culture richness that UHS does, student consider it normal and we should strive together as a school community to never take it for granted.
