2013 Emmy Awards
The annual television awards show known as “The Emmys” aired Sept. 22. There were many nominations for categories such as Best Drama Series and Best Reality Show. There was a lot of excitement at the Emmys, and there were a few underdog wins and a few snubs, as well as a few “guaranteed” wins.
“Breaking Bad” was considered to be the overall winner of the Emmys because it won the award for Best Drama Series, which was a tough category with many good dramas. It was also one of only a couple of shows to win more than one award, and it was regarded as a snub when it lost in another category it was nominated for. Sadly, this will be “Breaking Bads” last year at the Emmys because the series ended Sept. 30.
One of the biggest surprises in the Emmys was the winner of the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. It went to Bobby Cannavale of “Boardwalk Empire,” when most people thought it would go to Aaron Paul of “Breaking Bad” or Peter Dinklage from “Game of Thrones.”
One of the biggest headlines up until the night of the Emmys was Kerry Washington. She was nominated for Best Actress in a Drama, and she would have been the first African-American actress to have ever won in this category. Sadly, Washington did not win, but this gives viewers hope for future years for an African-American woman to win.
“I really wanted Kerry Washington to win,” said junior Katie Carroll. “I felt like it would have made the night almost perfect if she had won.”
However, there are some people at UHS who didn’t even watch the Emmy’s.
Sophomore Carter Huff said, “I don’t really like the Emmys; I’d rather do something else.”
All in all, the Emmys were a very eventful awards show with many viewpoints on different matters regarding the Emmys.
