Review of Maria Goodin
A Short Review of Maria Goodin, from the kitchen of half-truth.
Meg May who is 21,knows nothing of her past; except for fairy tales. Her mother, Valerie, had told her she blew up like a beach ball.
She was also told she caught fairies in a milk bottle.
She goes in search of the truth because her dying mother will not tell her anything. Not anything that actually happened anyway. Valerie’s Gardener, Ewan encourages Meg to keep looking for the truth after a few dead ends appear. Meg learns the truth about their past shortly after a doctor says her mom has less then a year to live.
Her mother had always said her father died in a pastry-making accident. This is very far from the truth she eventually finds out.
Meg is astonished when she does find out the truth. She starts to understand her mother though. Her mother was trying to protect her by making up the stories when she asked questions.
Then her mother starts to just surround herself with it all and eventually starts to believe them herself. She has blocked out everything else and thinks of the stories as the truth.
The beginning of the book will have you laughing out loud. The middle will have you confused. The end of the book might make you sad.
Really though, the book will leave you wanting more of the story. Maria Goodin’s Novel tells the amazing story of a young woman and her mother.
