NSYNC at VMA’s
At the 2013 “Video Music Awards” on Aug. 26, not only did it praise new acts, but it also featured a throwback to ‘N Sync, one of the biggest (and best) boy bands of the ’90s.
Former band member Justin Timberlake received the Michael Jackson Vanguard Video Award. Before accepting the award, he performed a compilation of his biggest solo hits, including “SexyBack,” “What Comes Around…,” “Suit & Tie” and “Mirrors.” Midway through his performance, he was joined by former band mates JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone and Lance Bass to perform two of their biggest songs, “Girlfriend” and “Bye Bye Bye.”
Although the performance only lasted a short minute and 40 seconds, it was one of the few highlights of the night. Pop icons such as Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Niall Horan (of One Direction) were all up and out of their seats for the first time that night.
Based on the audience’s reaction in the arena, it’s no surprise that fans around the world were thrilled when they saw the four of them together on the same stage for the first time since 2002. No doubt, there were many fans who felt the same as Hayley Williams (front woman for Paramore) when she tweeted: “Alright, we can turn our TVs off now. The only part that matters (at the VMAs and all of life) just happened. @NSYNC, come back anytime.”
After the performance, rumors of a permanent reunion started swirling. Sadly, though, Bass confirmed there would be no reunion – at least not any time soon. One reason is that Timberlake is going to be on tour this fall.
The men may be a lot older now, and it may seem a little funny to see them doing the same thing they were doing when they were teenagers; but it made a lot of fan girls’ dreams come true, and that’s really all that matters
