Champaign Amber Alert Received by UHS Students
Many students received an Amber alert just before noon today. The alert was issued because a 13-year-old girl, Cleo Younce, had been reported kidnapped Thursday, Sept. 5 when she called her mother around 3:30 p.m..
She was found shortly after in Cape Girardeau, Mo., about 240 miles from Champaign.
Police believed Younce was with Nicholas Hurley, 21, who is from Danville Ind. and knows Younce through family friends. Rene Dunn told the News Gazette they were located by police as they came out of a Walmart.
Currently, the police are trying to determine what happened while Younce was missing.
“Right now we are talking with her,” Dunn told the News Gazette. “They’re going to be interviewing her to get more details about the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
Dunn was thankful for the community vigilance following the Amber alert.
