Summer Hot Spots
Summer is getting closer and many are planning their summer vacations. Luckily, for UHS students, they do not have to go far to have an excellent summer.
Here are a few places to visit this summer:
First is the Art Theatre, which offers movies, ballet, opera, dramatic theater and other performances. A movie for a student costs $7 and a school I.D. is required. The price for a ballet is $13.50, and an opera or dramatic theater performance is $18.
Another great place to visit in the area is the Champaign Public Library. Visitors can find resources, study, go online, rent a movie and even kick back to enjoy some coffee. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the week (Monday through Friday), from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The next place to visit is Memorial Stadium. It was built in 1923 to honor those who gave their lives in World War I. A list of names can be found in the east and west part of the stadium in columns. Those who died in World War II and other wars – like the Vietnam War, the Korean War, Desert Storm and Lebanon – later joined them. The Chicago Bears used the stadium in 2003, when their own was closed for renovations. Today, the stadium is used for college football games and other activities.
If you are craving to see dance, comedy, film, theater or music, then the Virginia Theatre is the place to visit this summer. The theater offers many performances for various prices. Prices can range from $7 for a play to $12 for a ballet show. The theater was recently renovated, so it is definitely a place to check out in the coming months.
If you are bored at home this summer, think back and say, “Oh yeah, that guy told me some great places I should check out!” You’re welcome.
