As we come in the morning to school, we notice janitors unlocking doors for us to enter, and others getting done cleaning up the school for us to have a clean and great learning environment. For this, we shall thank not only the custodian staff, but also our school’s head custodian, Mr. Dyson. Mr. Dyson has been in the UHS staff for 40 years, making this building run and stay clean. Although many members of our student body have heard that  Ms. Yarber is leaving leaving, another excellent staff member and she will be extremely missed, we only recently were informed that the man that has been making this building clean and run for 40 years is stepping down and retiring.
Mr. Dyson’s job is that he helps make this building run well and helps it stay clean. He also oversees any setup for any activities such as athletics and music events, meets weekly with the administration for any problems or concerns at UHS, and many things to keep the building clean and running. He has worked hard behind the scenes for years to keep UHS the great school it is.
During his time at Urbana High School, Mr. Dyson has experienced many changes. He’s gone through four different decades and many different styles the students and teachers have had. He has also seen the faces of 10 different principals in his time. He’s also seen many of the different changes the school has gone through, such as the auditorium, the new fields, many new changes in the classroom, and the new gyms and changes of the old gym and swimming pool.
As Mr. Dyson retires, the administration had to pick a new operation/maintenance coordinator. The person they picked was Mr. Al Buenting, another maintenance staff at Urbana High School. With Mr. Dyson planning his retirement, he has many fun things planned out. “I plan a cruise with my wife in October and another trip to Branson, Missouri with my wife during the month of December 2013.” Mr. Dyson said.
With the final days of Mr. Dyson’s career ending, he will always be part of our Tiger family at Urbana High School. 40 years of helping UHS run and stay clean, Mr. Dyson will be retiring, but he will never be forgotten at Urbana High School. Thank you Mr. Dyson, for all that you have done for this building. We will definitely miss you, and you will always be a part of the UHS family.
