Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon
Ready, set, go! It is that time of the year again; the Illinois Marathon is here. The event will take place on April 26 and 27.
Registration opened July 11, 2012 and closed April 15, 2013 for every race except the Youth Run. It is the fifth annual Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon and organizers announced that this year the 5k starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26.
Every year, thousands of people gather to run for many different causes and reasons. Among those people, are Urbana High School students like Fiona Munro.
“I am running in the marathon to be part of something that hundreds of other people like me do. It’s like a tradition, only even better because we’re all doing something as simple as running to reach our common goal – the finish line. I’m not running for a particular cause, but I know that a lot of people do. Last year I ran in the 5k with different groups, such as cancer survivors,” Munro said.
To some, running is just a sport, but to others it is more than that. It is a way of life that has great significance.
“The marathon is important because it helps people feel like a part of something bigger. There is a moment in a race when you feel in sync with your body, and with everyone around you. Runners live for that moment,” said Munro.
Tighter security should be expected after the Boston Marathon bombings, but that is not to stop people from having a great time. Food, medals, and fun were promised for those who participate in the marathon.
Whether participants run for fun, to support, or in memory of the Boston bombing victims, the marathon will be an unforgettable event for everyone.
Oh Em Gee I really like your writers voice, and your fantastic quote integration. A little bit of a long article is also welcome though!
I love that this topic was covered. In light of the recent events in Boston, it’s important to remember all of the good that still exists in this country. The Illinois marathon supports all runners and allows them to reach their goals.
This is amazing I’m interested in running and the vocabulary you used was very nice good job
This topic is really well covered and a good one to focus on considering it takes place right here in Urbana. I like that it was written right after the Boston tragedy so we can all keep all of the runners and those competing and volunteering in our thoughts and prayers.
Well worded and I was interested in this article because it was about running. Quality job!
